Reverie Tarot

A hand-illustrated tarot system inspired by dreams, numerology, and psychedelic pop-art.

Reverie Tarot is a 78 + 2 card tarot deck set in a dream-like world where symbolism, numerology, and surreal imagery merge into a cohesive visual system. Originally created in 2016, the deck was fully illustrated by hand using archival ink on textured paper before being brought to life in color digitally.

The Major Arcana integrate each card into its corresponding number, while the Minor Arcana embed the symbolism of each suit directly into the structure of the illustrations. The project later expanded into multiple editions, including the limited black-and-gold Midnight Reverie variant and the refined second edition of the deck.

Overview

Reverie Tarot is a 78 + 1 card, hand-illustrated tarot deck set in a dream-like world, fusing numerology and symbolism with classic psychedelic pop-art. The imagery of the cards creates a bridge between reality and the world of dreams, offering an abstract perspective through symbolic storytelling.

Originally created in 2016, the project later expanded into multiple editions, including the limited-edition Midnight Reverie Tarot, a black-and-gold reinterpretation of the deck, as well as a second edition with updated illustrations, brighter colors, new card backs, and expanded companion materials.

Goal

Reverie Tarot began as a personal project to bring my dream-world of tarot to life.

As I began sketching concepts, I knew I wanted to incorporate bold numerology into the Major Arcana and the symbol of each suit into the Minor Arcana so that each individual card would be immediately recognizable. I wanted to create a deck that would allow for varying levels of depth in each reading, enabling a quick reading by spotting patterns and numerology or a more in-depth reading that could dig into the rich symbolism and color theory of the image.

The subconscious mind has a direct connection to the Universe, and Reverie Tarot was designed to help readers step back and let their inner self take over by seeing situations from a different, often abstract perspective.

Process & Approach

Each card was hand-illustrated on 5×7-inch heavyweight fine texture paper with archival ink before being brought to life in full color.

Reverie Tarot was built around a shared visual language of recurring symbols, landscapes, and elemental imagery. Each suit was developed around its own symbolic world, using recurring imagery, elemental themes, and visual motifs to create a sense of connection across the deck.

The Major Arcana feature numerology integrated directly into the compositions, while the Minor Arcana incorporate the symbolism of each suit into the structure of the illustrations themselves.

The world of Reverie uses a finely tuned, limited color palette inspired by the rich colors of 1960s pop-art. The palette focuses on vivid colors with only a few tones of each, emphasizing the brilliance and vibrance of each hue.

As the project evolved, some illustrations were honed, modified, retouched, or fully re-illustrated by hand for the second edition in order to push the imagery further and allow the artwork to expand across larger compositions.

Results

In 2019, Reverie Tarot was successfully funded on Kickstarter alongside the limited-run Midnight Reverie Tarot, a black-and-gold edition complete with gold-gilt edges and a matching hardcover guidebook.

The project later expanded with a second successful Kickstarter campaign, introducing:

  • larger illustrations

  • brighter and more immersive color reproduction

  • redesigned card backs

  • updated packaging

  • a new 79th card, Harmony

  • expanded companion materials including Reverie Runes

The Reverie universe ultimately grew into a connected system of decks, guidebooks, symbolic worlds, and physical companion pieces designed to immerse readers more deeply into the dream-world of Reverie.

Conclusion

Reverie Tarot began as a personal illustration project and evolved into an expanding symbolic world built across multiple editions, formats, and companion pieces. Through recurring imagery, numerology, elemental symbolism, and surreal storytelling, the project became an exploration of how visual systems can create emotional connection, interpretation, and atmosphere across a large-scale body of work.

Overview

Super Love Oracle is a symbolic oracle deck inspired by the lyrics, soundscapes, and emotional worlds within the music of Super Love. Designed as a companion piece to the band’s discography, the deck transforms songs into surreal visual metaphors through bold color, crisp line work, and psychedelic environments rooted in optimism and connection.

Each song is represented through two companion cards: one focused on atmosphere and place, and another centered around people, emotion, and human connection.

Goal

The goal of Super Love Oracle was to expand the emotional world of the music into a visual storytelling system.

Rather than directly illustrating lyrics, the deck explores the emotional atmosphere surrounding each song through symbolic imagery, surreal environments, and dream-like scenes. The cards were designed to feel immersive and emotionally open-ended, allowing the imagery to exist somewhere between memory, fantasy, nostalgia, and emotional connection.

The project pulls visual inspiration from recurring themes throughout the music, including movement, isolation, optimism, nightlife, longing, and togetherness.

Process & Approach

Each card was digitally illustrated in Procreate using crisp line work, vibrant color palettes, and recurring symbolic imagery to create a connected visual language across the deck.

The structure of the deck was built around pairs of cards for each song:

  • one card focused on environment, atmosphere, or symbolic space

  • one card focused on people, interaction, or emotional perspective

This approach allowed each song to expand into a larger visual world while maintaining a sense of cohesion across the deck as a whole.

The imagery throughout the project blends surreal visual metaphors with emotional storytelling, using exaggerated environments, dream-like spaces, and psychedelic color relationships to capture the feeling of the music rather than literal narrative moments.

Process work for the deck includes early sketches, compositional exploration, handwritten lyric development, and recorded drawing sessions documenting the evolution of the illustrations.

Results

The completed cards established a cohesive visual system built around the emotional and symbolic world of Super Love. Across the project, recurring color relationships, environments, and symbolic motifs created a connected universe inspired by the music while allowing each song to maintain its own distinct atmosphere and emotional identity.

The project expanded the band’s visual language beyond album artwork into a larger narrative system built through illustration, symbolism, and emotional world-building.

Conclusion

Super Love Oracle became an exploration of how music, symbolism, and illustration can merge into a shared emotional landscape. Through surreal environments, visual metaphors, and interconnected imagery, the project transformed songs into immersive visual experiences designed to capture atmosphere, emotion, and connection.
